A centrifuge basket is the rotating component of a centrifugal separator, designed to hold and filter materials during the separation process. It plays a crucial role in solid-liquid separation by using centrifugal force to push liquids through perforations or screens while retaining solids inside the basket.
How It Works
Material Loading: The mixture (slurry, suspension, or wet solids) is fed into the basket.
Centrifugal Force: As the basket spins at high speeds, the force pushes the liquid outward through holes or mesh while the solids remain inside.
Separation & Discharge: The liquid drains out, and the solids can be removed manually or automatically, depending on the design.
Common Designs
Perforated Basket: Has small holes for liquid drainage.
Centrifuge Basket: Uses fine mesh for precision filtering.
Wedge Wire Basket: Features V-shaped wires for efficient separation.
Applications
Pharmaceuticals (drug production)
Food Processing (sugar, starch, edible oils)
Mining & Minerals (coal, sand, mineral processing)
Wastewater Treatment (sludge dewatering)
